4 Ways to Bring Nature Inside the Home

Nature never gets old. Nature is timeless. We are nature and nature is us.

Nature is a necessity after all.

We tend to turn to nature for the relaxation and the peace of mind. It is extremely easy to get caught up in the moment when you are watching the sunset or hiking on a crisp fall day or just staring out at the sea and the waves crashing everywhere. Bringing the sense of relaxation that nature can create is easy even if you live in the deepest level of the busiest city in your country.

So how can you bring nature into the home with as much simplicity as possible?

The first one is obvious.

 Have house plants

If you aren’t into spending your life in the yard (or If you don’t have a yard but would like one), having house plants can help you out, no problem. Technically, there is no such thing as “too many house plants”, but then again, there is. Used tastefully, houseplants can add not only all the great and obvious natural wellness into your home, but they can also be used to enhance the look of a space.

 A Herb Garden

Rosemary, mint, sage, oregano, basil, chives, dill --- oh my! There is nothing quite like cooking with fresh herbs. And, fresh herbs cannot get any fresher when you break them fresh off the plant growing right in your own home. You can go as small as one small-sized planter per herb or go as big as a galvanized herb planter.

Herbs tend to want a lot of direct sunlight for proper growth (6+ hours of sunlight per day). If you do not have access to that much direct sunlight inside the home, you can try herbs that tend to grow without sunlight. The list may be limited but still offers a wonderful variety. Chives, thyme, mint, sorrel, and tarragon are some examples of these fresh herbs.

Let in some natural light

Natural light makes us happier, helps us focus, improves our natural sleep patterns and rhythms. The immune system is happier, therefore reducing the risk of infections and illness. Good ol’ Vitamin D.

To make the room thrive at its best making the most use of the light, use a paint colour that reflects light, and not absorb it. Light reflects off whites, soft pastels, a vibrant yellow, warm orange, and most greys the best.

 Use natural home decor

It is the perfect way to dress up your home seasonally is with nature. Fresh cut flowers, dried flower arrangements with moss, potpourri, rattan furniture pieces, ceramic art, nature themed art, and more. These are just some simple and effective ways to incorporate more nature into your home.

If you are someone who doesn’t get past the Holiday season without a Christmas tree, a great alternative is to have a potted tree that is forever ready to be dolled up for the festive season.
